Merrily, Merrily....Rolling A-long!

Hi All,

I've been informed that it's been a while since I've blogged. And I suppose that's true. It turns out that there's a neurotoxin in every engagement ring that is released into the bloodstream once the ring is on. This toxin short-circuits the brain of the wearer, causing total inability to focus on ANYTHING except dresses, cakes, guest lists, and other frippery. Sometimes schoolwork, too, but not often. So I apologize for the tardiness. As you can see, I'm not to blame :)

Where was I? Ah yes, Cambodia. Well, Saigon to Phnom Penh is a good ten-twelve hours by bus. I got an unexpected tour of the Cambodian countryside, which was pretty amazing, actually. (The karaoke DVDs of Khmer music that the buses play ON A LOOP for TEN HOURS? Less amazing. I was close to homicide by the time we arrived in PP.)  Cambodia is extreme in every sense of the word. There are sights that are extremely beautiful, and there are sights that are extremely heartwrenching. There's extreme poverty and extreme danger. But there is also extreme hope and resilience. It is wild, untamed, and totally unlike anywhere that I have ever been before. It's an experience that will forever leave its mark on me. I took hundreds of pictures and none of them really capture the splendor of this country-this strange, strange land. However, here is a photo essay of the countrysie, snapped from the aisle seat of the moving bus with Adhiti sleeping against the window. The quality is obviously not the best, but I hope you can see beyond the pictures and see into the heart of the country-a place where many have never heard of the United States and live lives you could never dream of.

Must get back to wedding planning! So, until next time, sayonara suckers! And love you all. Singapore Sue, signing off.
